Board Minutes 2014-06-03

Minutes of the Regular Meeting of the Sullivan Township Board held at the Sullivan Township Hall,

June 3, 2014. The meeting was called to order by Supervisor Mabrito at 6:30 p.m. with the pledge ofallegiance.

 

PRESENT:  Supervisor, Tony Mabrito; Clerk, Sue Buckner; Treasurer, Tammy Gillette; Trustee, Kevin Aney; Trustee, Mary Kotecki; eight residents, Muskegon County Drain Commissioner Brenda Moore, Alan Jager, Howard Hardesty of West Michigan Growth, and Ben Gillette.

ABSENT:  None

 

MINUTES:  It was moved by Mary Kotecki, supported by Kevin Aney, to accept the minutes of the meetings of May 6, 2014.  Motion carried.

 

FINANCE:  The Treasurer’s report on Township receipts of $16,339.07 for the period of May 1, 2014, through May 31, 2014, was presented by Treasurer, Tammy Gillette.

 

It was moved by Sue Buckner, supported by Tammy Gillette, to pay bills of $11,193.91 as presented.  Motion carried.

 

COMMITTEE REPORTS: Planning Commission: Minutes from the meeting held May 13, 2014 were reviewed by Commission Secretary Eloise Jarka.  The joint meeting of the Planning Commission and Township Board will be held on Tuesday, June 10, and a special hearing will be held on Thursday, June 12, regarding Whispering Whitetails Obstacle Course special land use.  Both meetings start at 5:30 p.m.

 

4-H FAIRBOARD REPORT:  Board Liaison Brent Gillette gave an update on the May meeting.

 

AUDIENCE PARTICIPATION:  Brenda Moore, Muskegon County Drain Commissioner, gave an informative presentation on the history of the drain commission regarding federal, state and county involvement, as well as her list of priorities for the coming year.

 

Alan Jager introduced himself as an Independent candidate for the 91st State House of Representatives.

 

Ben Gillette introduced himself as a Democratic candidate for Muskegon County Commissioner representing the 5th District.

 

CORRESPONDENCE: Letter of Agreement between Sullivan Township & West Michigan Growth:  Howard Hardesty of WMG answered questions from the board and residents regarding this organization and their focus.  This matter was tabled until the July meeting.

 

Notice was received from Seventh-Day Adventist Church stating they will be in the area this summer.

 

OLD BUSINESS:  Volunteers are needed for the June 14 tire recycling event.  They are especially needed for the noon to 4:00 p.m. shift.  If interested in volunteering, please contact the township office.

 

The township web-site should be completed by the end of June.

 

The cleaning and general maintenance positions have been filled.

NEW BUSINESS:  Replacement windows for the township office will be purchased and installed by Muskegon Glass Company.

 

DISCUSSION:  The Board thanked Brent Gillette for placing flags on the Veteran’s graves in our township cemetery for Memorial Day.  He stated he was honored to do so and will do it again next year.

ADJOURNMENT:  There being no further business to come before the Board, it was moved by Sue Buckner, supported by Kevin Aney to adjourn.  Motion carried. The meeting adjourned at 8:08 p.m.
