NEW VOTER REGISTRATION LAWS AND AV LAWS

With the passage of Proposal 18-3 in November, 2018, new voter registration laws are now in effect.  Voters no longer need to register 30 days prior to an election to vote.  The highlights of these new laws are as follows:

UP THROUGH 15th DAY PRIOR TO ELECTION:  Voter may register in person at an SOS branch office, clerk office, designated state agency or by mail.

STARTING 14th DAY PRIOR TO ELECTION:  Voter must register in person with local clerk with residency verification in order to vote in next election.  Mail-in registrants must be notified to apply in person.

ELECTION DAY:  Voter must register in person with local clerk with residency verification in order to obtain a ballot in that election.

NO REASON AV:  Voters no longer require a reason for absentee voting.  Any registered voter has this option available.  Please notify the township clerk at 853-6900 is you wish to be put on the permanent absentee voter list.  If you are on this permanent list, you will be sent an application for an AV ballot prior to every election.

NOTE:  Local clerks will have special Saturday and/or Sunday hours the weekend prior to the election for processing Voter Registrations and AV Ballot requests.  Check with your local clerk for these special hours.
