Sullivan Township Board Meeting Minutes August 1, 2023
The meeting was called to order by Tony Mabrito at 5:30 p.m. with the Pledge of Allegiance.
ROLL CALL: Present: Tony Mabrito-Supervisor, Libby Spencer-Clerk, Tracey McGhan-Treasurer, Joe Kremm-Trustee, Jeremy Rios-Trustee along with 13 residents
MINUTES: It was moved by Joe Kremm, supported by Tracey McGhan, to accept the minutes of the regular meeting held. Motion carried.
FINANCE: The Treasurer’s report on all Township receipts of $47,103.52 for the period of July 1, 2023, to July 31, 2023, was presented by Treasurer Tracey McGhan. It was moved by Libby Spencer, supported by Joe Kremm, to pay bills of $88,627.88 as presented by Clerk Libby Spencer. Motion carried.
REPORTS: Planning Commission – Jeremy Rios reported that they completed their recommendation for the Pond Ordinance and are now going to concentrate on the Shipping Container Ordinance.
Michigan Township Services- June’s Activity was reviewed, July is not available yet.
CORRESPONDENCE: Fresh Coast Planning Activity was reviewed, excessive junk and old vehicles stored on property are being addressed, new dwelling requests were among her activities for the township
OLD BUSINESS: Noise Ordinance Review, the board members were presented with a updated version of our noise ordinance to review for September’s board meeting.
The Master Plan needs to be updated. Tony suggested that Planning Commission Chair Tom Anton, request another bid for the renewal.
NEW BUSINESS: Personal trees and other permanent plantings in the Cemetery are overgrown and encroaching on the neighboring plots owned by other individuals. To address the concerns of those affected by this issue, Tracey made a motion, supported by Jeremy, to set a standard rule, like all other cemeteries eliminating in-ground plants. All ornaments must be in an urn or planter box and only one per grave. Trimming, brush/tree removal will be taking place this fall.
A Clean Up Day proposal by the residents of Sullivan Township was discussed and it was decided that September 9 and 10, 2023 would be a good opportunity to address the tires, boats, skids and other debris that has been discarded in the area known as the Sahara (the old dump site). This is a resident driven project.
Sullivan Township Pond Ordinance was presented to the board this week to review, make notes and it will be discussed at the September board meeting.
PUBLIC COMMENTS: Bill Howard once again brought up the of flooding taking place on Sullivan Road north of Heights Ravenna Road. Tony has spoken to the MCRC who will be digging out the ditches in this area later this year.
ADJOURNMENT: There being no further business to come before the Board, it was moved by Libby Spencer, supported by Joe Kremm to adjourn at 6:18pm. Motion carried.
