Sullivan Township Board Meeting Minutes May 9, 2024
MEETING: was called to order by Tony Mabrito at 5:30 p.m. with the Pledge of Allegiance.
ROLL CALL: Present: Tony Mabrito-Supervisor, Libby Spencer-Clerk, Tracey McGhan-Treasurer, Joe Kremm-Trustee, Jeremy Rios-Trustee, 12 residents were also present.
MINUTES: It was moved by Tracey McGhan, supported by Joe Kremm, to accept the minutes of the regular meeting held. Motion carried.
FINANCE: The Treasurer’s report on all Township receipts of $56,854 for the period of March 1, 2023, to March 31, 2023, was presented by Treasurer Tracey McGhan. It was moved by Libby Spencer, supported by Tracey McGhan, to pay bills of $29,396 as presented by Clerk Libby Spencer. Motion carried.
REPORTS: Planning Commission – Jeremy Rios reported that they are working on increasing Accessory Building size allowances. They also agreed to reducing the minimum property needed for Shipping Containers. There will be a joint board and PC meeting on June 11th.
-Michigan Township Services activities and Fresh Coast Planning activities were reviewed.
OLD BUSINESS: Township Office Administrator has been posted and several applicants will be reviewed this coming month.
NEW BUSINESS: A Resolution regarding Application Fees and Escrow Fund Requirements was reviewed and passed by the board in a roll call vote. The Rate of $1000 will be maintained in an Escrow Account for applicants of projects such as Planned Developments, Site Plan Reviews, Private Roads approvals, Special Use Permits, etc.
-After reviewing the fees that other Townships were charging for Ordinance Penalties the Board agreed to increase the township’s penalties to $500 for the first offense, $1000 for the second offense and $2000 for the third offense for all Ordinance Violations.
-Approval of Senior Resource Money for the Wheelchair Ramp that was approved in 2023 was reviewed by the board.
-Joint School/Township PINS Program would work with Moorland, Casnovia, and Ravenna Townships as well as the Ravenna Public Schools to hire a Muskegon County Sherriff that would be assigned to work to the participating entities.
-We have been advised to complete our Solar Ordinance by September of this year.
– Road Work Scheduled for 2024, consist of (1) Nichols Heights Subdivision, (2) Steiner Road and Sheringer Road from Hts Ravenna to Maple Island and (3) Summit Avenue from Wolf Lake East to the cul-de-sac.
-Memorial Day Service 1:00 Sunday May 26 at the Township Cemetery.
– Agreement Between Sullivan Township and Muskegon County Board of Commissioner was approved.
-Tree Trimming in the Park and Cemetery estimates were presented and it was agreed to proceed with the lowest bid.
-Non-Partisan Candidates must apply by 4:00pm on Tuesday July 23rd.
DISCUSSION/ANNOUNCMENTS –Additional Playground equipment proposals/estimates were presented and passed with a roll call vote to move forward with the Game Time proposal. Supervisor Mabrito was the only opposing vote.
PUBLIC COMMENTS: Kendra Robinson was at the meeting to introduce herself. She is running for Probate Judge to fill Judge Pittman’s position.
-Sandy Brodeur made a request for the township to consider using some of the senior resource funds for a foot care program
-The Tire Recycling Program will be held in September 2024.
ADJOURNMENT: There being no further business to come before the Board, it was moved by Tracey McGhan, supported by Jeremy Rios to adjourn at 6:48pm. Motion carried.
