Sullivan Township Board Meeting Minutes– November 6, 2024
MEETING: was called to order by Tony Mabrito at 5:30 p.m. with the Pledge of Allegiance.
ROLL CALL: Present: Tony Mabrito-Supervisor, Libby Spencer-Clerk, Tracey McGhan-Treasurer, Joe Kremm-Trustee, Jeremy Rios-Trustee, About 16 residents were in attendance.
MINUTES: It was moved by Libby Spencer supported by Joe Kremm to accept the minutes of the regular meeting held. Motion carried.
FINANCE: The Treasurer’s report on all Township receipts of $53,670.80 for the period of October 1, 2024, to October 31, 2024, was presented by Treasurer Tracey McGhan. It was moved by Tracey McGhan, supported by Joe Kremm to pay bills of $117,684.84 as presented by Clerk Libby Spencer. Motion carried.
REPORTS: Planning Commission – Jeremy Rios reported that the Amendment to the Accessory Building has been finalized and sent to the board for approval. The Solar Energy Ordinance is also ready for the board’s approval.
-Michigan Township Services and the Fresh Coast Planning Activities were reviewed
OLD BUSINESS: Libby Spencer and Tracey McGhan met with our Auditor, Patrick Metchler, requesting his assistance to either hire an accountant or have someone work with the incoming Clerk and Treasurer to educate them on township financial requirements. Both new officials being present for this discussion, the board will be moving forward the educational option.
NEW BUSINESS: Treasurer McGhan discussed the DTE/Conservation District Grant that was awarded to Sullivan Township for the planting of several trees and seedlings on Township property. Melanie Block has offered the assistance of her FFA students to help with the planting.
-Renewable Energy Ordinance was tabled due to the lack of time to review this very important ordinance.
-Accessory Building increase Size and Use – Amendment was approved apart from removing the complex graph and replacing it with a simple calculation. The approval in a roll call vote of 4 yay and 1 nay vote, was taken.
-Concerns with increased accidents at the corner of Sternberg-Maple Island Intersection was reported to the Muskegon County Road Commission. They are sending letters to the homeowners of all 4 corners of this intersection, with reference to having the brush and trees along Maple Island Road to be cut back 300’ for clearance and 200’ along Sternberg Road.
-Treasurer McGhan also provided the costs of having full-time Sullivan Police Support Option through the Fruitport Police Force. It was discussed that a part-time officer or police presence is more in line with Sullivan townships needs.
ANNOUNCMENTS: The newly elected members of Sullivan Township’s board were all present and welcomed. They are Supervisor – Courtney Glavich, Clerk – Heather Brown, Treasurer – Brooke VanHouten, Trustee – Angela Himber, Trustee – Michael Hazekamp.
Supervisor Tony Mabrito was presented with a plaque in honor of his 35 years of service and dedication to the township of Sullivan. This commitment to our township is greatly appreciated!
ADJOURNMENT: There being no further business to come before the Board, it was moved by Libby Spencer, supported by Tracey McGhan to adjourn at 6:00pm. Motion carried.
